Nuno Brandão Costa
Oporto – Portugal
Nuno Brandão trained in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto ((FAUP), finishing his studies in the architecture studio ‘Herzog & de Meuron’ in Switzerland and in the José Fernando Gonçalves e Paulo Providência studio in Porto, Portugal.
In 1998 he founded his own studio after having won an international public competition for the Central Library of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the New University of Lisbon. He also received the SIC 2004 Best New Architect and Express Merit Award.
His work currently entails both public and private projects on different scales; creating houses and community buildings as well as public buildings such as the Faculty of Arts at the University of Porto, the sports and e-learning facilities at the University of Porto and the Municipal Library project in Caminha.
His way of understanding architecture is characterised by a very strict minimalism and a plastic visual impact, and by designs based on geometry which can be seen in practically all his works.
