1 – Who is Rafael Llamazares?

A person / architect who loves his work.

2 – When did you discover that you wanted to be an architect?

I have always known, I have been interested in everything related to art since I was a child. And architecture in particular interested me more and more as time passed.

3 – A reference in architecture…

From the classics, Le Corbusier, Wright; from present day, Zaha Hadid. But above all Joaquín Torres, who is a magnificent architect.

4 – If you had not been architect, you would have been…

Any career related with the world of art

5 – One defect and one virtue:

Sometimes I am too negative. I enjoy my work.

6 – What is your house like?

It is an old apartment in the Austrias part of Madrid.

7 – Sunday is a day for:

Going to see an exhibition, going for a walk, being with friends, relaxing…

8 – A place to look for inspiration:

Any exhibition or art fair. Although I think that inspiration should not be sought.

9 – What is the last book that you have read?

I am up to date on everything that refers to architecture and design specialized publications.

10 – 15 Years from now…

Continue working on what I am passionate about.

11 – When you think of architecture you think of…

Shapes, colors, art, design, creativity, city…

12 – Pencil or computer?

Marker.

13 – How would you describe your work?

Creative and functional.

14 – One project you would like to do:

I like to do all kinds of projects, any project is a challenge.

15 – Your opinion of Spanish architecture:

There are very good works and good architects. But we Spaniards in general don’t know how to sell ourselves, and this is even more so for architects… In the end, we are just professionals…

16 – How do you keep your own style while meeting your customers’ needs?

I suppose we have a recognizable style, or at least we have our style, we simply adapt to the needs of the client.

17 – In architecture, what are you better at and what do you have more trouble with?

I like to draw. I find the construction phase less attractive although it is necessary to “struggle” with it often.

18 – Your recipe for success:

Work on things you are passionate about and that you believe in.

19 – What is the role of natural products in your projects?

They play a fundamental role, we tend to use them as often as possible and they are always materials that we recommend to the customer.
