Raquel Chamorro López-Montes – Estudio Raquel Chamorro – Madrid

Millesime Madrid 2013, Loranque wineries, 4-Story single-family home, House in Pozuelo, French Palace in Arab country, Mansion in Salamanca District (Madrid).

1 – Who is Raquel Chamorro?

A person with a tireless zeal for knowing, studying, and then being able to design things her own way.

2 – When did you discover that you wanted to be an interior designer?

I don’t remember… I started studying art and all my studies and masters have been aimed towards that end.

3 – A reference in interior design…

I would talk more of eras and styles: Louis XV, Sheraton, Biedermeier… from which I have found inspiration…I feel it is practically impossible to innovate without knowing the past.

4 – If you had not been an interior designer, you would have been…?

Any other art activity, because I’m passionate about all of them.

5 – One defect and one virtue.

An obsession for achieving “perfection”… being much more tolerant with others than with myself.

6 – What is your house like?

A home with open spaces … very eclectic.

7 – Sunday is a day for…

Going to Mass, having an aperitif, lunch, going to see an exhibition, a film… always with my family.

8 – A place to look for inspiration.

Inspiration is never to be searched… you soak yourself in beauty through opera, painting, sculpture, travel, fashion, antiques… and when you least expect it, there it is!

9 – What is the last book that you have read?

East Wind, and every night I read about architecture, design, lesser arts…

10 – 15 Years from now…

Keep on transmitting excitement and magic through my spaces.

11 – When you think of interior design or design you think of…

Volumes, color ranges, and new materials.

12 – Pencil or computer?

Pen! I have the best computer graphic specialists…

13 – How would you describe your work?

Neat but warm, searching balance and harmony. Symbiosis between tradition and innovation.

14 – One project you would like to do.

A 6-Star hotel and the setting for all the scenes of a film. I will start both in 2014.

15 – Your opinion of Spanish interior design.

We have people who are very professional but they don’t internationalize themselves enough.

16 – How do you keep your own style while meeting your customers’ needs?

They are not mutually exclusive… they go hand in hand. Customers know my style perfectly.

17 – In your work, what are you better at and what do you have more trouble with?

Creating, searching for the common theme, the leitmotif, delighting people. I hate talking numbers.

18 – Your recipe for success.

Empathy, a good cultural background, and staying up to date in a completely multidisciplinary profession.

19 – What is the role of natural products in your projects?

It is very important; they are almost always present.

20 – Your flagship L’Antic Colonial product is…

The Phuket Bioprot washbasin, both in Brown Stone as Grey Stone finishes.
