Flooring trends for 2024

21 November, 2023

Are you planning to remodel your home? Check out the main flooring trends for 2024 and some tips for choosing the best flooring for your property.

The floor is one of the most important elements of a house, both from a functional and decorative point of view.

In fact, if we think about it, the floor is what is most seen in all the rooms of a house and, somehow, other elements such as doors or furniture follow its color, aesthetics, or design.

If you are planning to renovate your home in the coming months, you’ve probably been looking for information about which floor tiles will be trending in the coming year.

For this reason, at L’Antic Colonial we have prepared a list of the main flooring trends for 2024.

Five home flooring trends for 2024

Ceramic floors are back in full effect

Although they have never completely gone away, it seems that this year ceramic floors are making a strong comeback, claiming their traditional role in a house and supported by their resistance, durability and wide range of designs and finishes.

Flooring trends for 2024 are leaning towards ceramic surfaces with matte finishes, with a soft and silky appearance, with warm and porous textures, and in light tones such as gray or beige to give a natural and authentic feel.

Flooring trends

Herringbone patterns, when classic becomes trendy

Natural wood floors are always trending, but this 2024 they have special features, such as the herringbone patterns.

Although this design was originally associated with a manor or royal style, the truth is that it fits perfectly with more modern and contemporary styles, bringing movement to the floor and balance to the rooms.

L’Antic Colonial’s CLASSIC collection is perfect if your intention is to combine a zigzag design on the floor with more modern furniture and accessories

Initially, we recommend that you opt for wooden floors in neutral and light tones to add warmth (especially in bedrooms), although, if you wish, you can also emphasize this effect by choosing a herringbone wood floor in a dark color and balance its intensity with furniture in soft tones.

Regarding the shape of the herringbone, depending on your preference, it can be a normal herringbone, double herringbone or «chevron» design.

Geometric shapes, with a vintage touch, for kitchens and bathrooms.

Geometric shapes have also made their way into the flooring trends for 2024, as they add personality to any space, without compromising the functionality or usability of the flooring.

One of the benefits of geometric patterns is their ability to combine colors and shapes thanks to the use of easy-to-install materials, such as vinyls and laminates, which offer a wide variety of patterns and finishes.

The AMSTERDAM series, for example, offers hexagonal designs, in this case in natural stone, and are a good alternative to implement the geometric style in bathrooms and kitchens.

Irregular designs in natural stone

The use of long-lasting materials, capable of resisting the years, makes many people look for designs that give a certain sense of «imperfection» to the floor of their houses.

Within this year’s flooring trends, materials with aged, burnt and even rusted effects are common.

Also surfaces with irregular, curved and organic shapes, which create comfortable and cozy environments, thanks to natural stone.

Although this type of material was traditionally used in bathrooms and kitchens, the latest trends include it in other rooms of the house, such as bedrooms and living rooms.

Some of L’Antic Colonial’s natural stone series to achieve this “irregular” effect are KATHMANDU and PATAGONIA, inspired by nature.

Latest trends in flooring

Black marble, intense and “ultra-compact”

Although the focus is on light tones in wood and ceramic tiles, the flooring trends for 2024 highlight dark colors when it comes to natural stones such as marble, which adds elegance and personality to any space.

L’Antic Colonial’s Negro Marquina series, available in polished finishes, offers rusty brown and white details on a glossy background, creating a unique feeling.

How to choose the best flooring for your home … beyond trends

In addition to following the flooring trends of the moment, when choosing a floor for your house you should consider different aspects, such as:

  • Use of each room. The type of flooring you choose should be appropriate for the use of the room, although some types of flooring, such as vinyl, adapt to almost every room in the house.
  • Decorative style. The floor will be part of the decoration of your home, and that is something you should not forget. For example, if you like rustic or industrial style, wood flooring is the best option.
  • Durability.  When making a renovation, professionals recommend investing in durable, quality and wear-resistant flooring, such as wood or natural stone from L’Antic Colonial.
  •  Budget. There are many types of flooring on the market. Even if you follow the flooring trends for 2024 we just listed, you can still find more affordable options, such as vinyl and laminate flooring. The general advice is that, before you start your work, you should estimate your budget.
  •  Installation and maintenance.  Installation is another important factor when choosing the flooring for your house, as some materials are easier to install than others. The same goes for maintenance, especially for natural materials such as marble or some types of wood.
