Could you imagine what it would mean to be able to give volume to wooden surfaces without needing to carve it? The Wood-Skin designers must have had this in mind as they have created a malleable wooden surface that can be used to design surprising shapes.
This wood-skin is the result of wooden planks and vinyl mesh stuck together with special glue. The final result is fabric-like wood, made in triangular pieces that can be shaped to create different three-dimensional shapes.
Its composition and lightness allow Wood-Skin to create volumes that do not require any other support as its own structure can manage the design’s weight without the need to use external fixings.
The user can personalise this product by choosing different measurements for the triangles as well as the size and thickness of the sheets. It can also be combined with different shapes to achieve personalised patterns.
This ingenious proposal from the Mamma Fotogramma studio is the result of research carried out by a team of designers and architects. It is undoubtedly an innovating material that puts current manufacturing processes at the service of a more cutting-edge and modern digital design.
