Over the last few months, designers have taken wood “to the streets” via their new creations. New materials are coming on the scene, in a universe that has become far more concerned with sustainability, biodegradability and innovations in quality over the last few months. Wood has arrived and looks as if it is here to stay in the accessory world in the shape of glasses, costume jewellery, bags and even bows and shoes.
The concept of craftsmanship, the quality of unique, bespoke pieces, and above all, a break away from mass-production, has made wood one of the most important materials in the most influential fashion collections of the 2016-2017 season.
Designers who stand out in our country are:
Laveta Eyewear (http://www.lavetaeyewear.com/): one of the most outstanding brands of 100% eco-friendly wooden sunglasses. Committed to sustainable but trendy designs, their styles strike a balance between avant-garde and classic with a touch of sophistication.
Domingo Ayala (http://domingoayala.es/): uses materials such as rope, wire or wood as part of his creations, all of which tend towards the organic. That is where wood comes in, his very “tribal” concept of costume jewellery reinvents it as the perfect material for necklaces and earrings. All his pieces are unique and have their own personality.
Last but not least, Dlcwood from Galicia (http://dlcwood.com/): Walnut, chestnut, ash or spruce are the types of wood used in their handbag designs which, unbelievably, only weigh 385 grams. Rounded edges, a mixture of materials such as eco-friendly leather and different shapes mean these unique pieces are the perfect accessory for woodlovers.
Would you dare to use one of these designs? We encourage you to do so. Sustainability is not only a passing fad, it is a way of life that we should be including in ours. What could be a better way of doing it than by starting with what we wear?
